Designer Marta creates costume design for belly dance using her vast experience on movability, durability, and show-stopping design. Her experience on stage as a dancer herself for 25 years in Egypt and throughout Europe and the Middle East.
Marta was born in San Francisco and became fascinated with dance at an early age. She also was interested in fashion and costume design from her high school years when she learned to sew her first creations.
In 1987 my book Anmutig und fit durch Bauchtanz was published by the Falken Verlag in Niedernhausen im Taunus (near Wiesbaden). Today they are part of Random House. And through work on the book I met my favorite photographer, Annerose Shatter, Stuttgart. Annerose took all of the photos in the book, we became friends, and did several more photoshoots together. I wish I had a photo with her. Lovely lady. We went to the ballet together.
All the way from China, I finally received my ultrasonic welding machine. 297 pounds of industrial machine. I had a 220 V line installed especially for this machine. I have been experimenting with different materials to see what works best with the machine. And I created an excel sheet where I track and rate the different materials. That way I won’t try the same one twice. So far, the faux suede turns out to have the highest quality. Second best is printed felt. Velveteen with a nylon back was a complete disaster, as well as thin poly/rayon, which just shredded. I have them on offer in my Etsy shop along with child costume designs and hair accessories.
